Torshavn
is the smallest capital in the world with only 19000 inhabitants
& is located on the island Streymoy. The
town is a charming blend of old and new. In the area around the
harbour lies Tinganes. This is where the government is located.
The ‘old town’ of Torshavn is also here. The small
houses have been restored over the last years & the area has
turned in to a nice place - much visited by tourists.
5
minutes walk from the harbour is the city-centre Vaglid. Here
is Logtingid, the Faeroese parliament. Nearby are also shops,
restaurants, bars, hotels & a cinema. 5-10 minutes more walking
leads to SMS, which is a modern shopping center with shops, a
bank and restaurants. 10-15 mins walk further up the road is Torsvollur
stadium where the faroese national team play their games &
next to the stadium is also the swimming hall and the Nortic House.
You can reach
the capital from other Faroese towns by car, bus or ferry. Below
